Same / Same
same / same is an ongoing series where I respond to travel photos I’ve taken by recreating them through paint, spray paint, and thread. Each piece begins with a moment I’ve captured—often something quiet and understated—and then I translate it in the studio.
It’s not just about replicating what I saw, but about capturing how I felt in that place. I think about the weather, the light, the sense of stillness or movement—whether I felt calm, excited, curious. I use colour and texture to reflect those emotions, building up layers of paint and spray paint to recreate atmosphere, and stitching over the top to slow the process down and connect more deeply to the memory.
The sewn lines act as a kind of emotional mapping—repetitive, imperfect, reflective. These works become meditative reflections of my time in a place—quiet responses to moments that linger.
